چکیده

We study the kinetics of phase transitions in a Rayleigh-Benard system after onset of convection using 2D Swift-Hohenberg equation. An initially uniform state evolves to one whose ground state is spatially periodic. We confirmed previous results which showed that dynamical scaling occurs at medium quench (ǫ = 0.25) with scaling exponents 1/5 and 1/4 under zero noise and finite noise respectively. We find logarithmic scaling behavior for a deep quench (ǫ = 0.75) at zero noise. A simple method is devised to measure the proxy of domain wall length. We find that the energy and domain wall length exhibit scaling behavior with the same exponent. For ǫ = 0.25, the scaling exponents are 1/4 and 0.3 at zero and finite noise respectively. Spots in the Swift-Hohenberg Equation

The existence of stationary localized spots for the planar and the three-dimensional Swift–Hohenberg equation is proved using geometric blow-up techniques. The spots found in this paper have a much larger amplitude than that expected from a formal scaling in the far field. One advantage of the geometric blow-up methods used here is that the anticipated amplitude scaling does not enter as an ass...

Modulation Equations: Stochastic Bifurcation in Large Domains

We consider the stochastic Swift-Hohenberg equation on a large domain near its change of stability. We show that, under the appropriate scaling, its solutions can be approximated by a periodic wave, which is modulated by the solutions to a stochastic Ginzburg-Landau equation. We then proceed to show that this approximation also extends to the invariant measures of these equations.

Defect formation in the Swift-Hohenberg equation.

We study numerically and analytically the dynamics of defect formation during a finite-time quench of the two-dimensional Swift-Hohenberg (SH) model of Rayleigh-Bénard convection. We find that the Kibble-Zurek picture of defect formation can be applied to describe the density of defects produced during the quench. Our study reveals the relevance of two factors: the effect of local variations of...

Dynamical Bifurcation of the One Dimensional Modified Swift-hohenberg Equation

In this paper, we study the dynamical bifurcation of the modified Swift-Hohenberg equation on a periodic interval as the system control parameter crosses through a critical number. This critical number depends on the period. We show that there happens the pitchfork bifurcation under the spatially even periodic condition. We also prove that in the general periodic condition the equation bifurcat...

Attractor Bifurcation and Final Patterns of the N-dimensional and Generalized Swift-hohenberg Equations

In this paper I will investigate the bifurcation and asymptotic behavior of solutions of the Swift-Hohenberg equation and the generalized Swift-Hohenberg equation with the Dirichlet boundary condition on a onedimensional domain (0, L). I will also study the bifurcation and stability of patterns in the n-dimensional Swift-Hohenberg equation with the odd-periodic and periodic boundary conditions....
